Straight outta Ypsilanti, we catch up with the SoundCloud phenom who’s taking the stage at Summer Jamz this weekend.

20-year-old Neisha Neshae is paving her way to fulfill her trap music dreams. BLAC sat down with the Ypsilanti native for our upcoming July issue, but you’ll just have to wait for that. In the meantime, you can catch Neshae at Summer Jamz on Saturday at Chene Park.

Here's how she got here: Her viral hit “On A Cloud” chronicles a big-money fantasy, talking of yachts, stacks and Maseratis — think of Biggie's "Juicy" from a female perspective. In real life, life wasn't as sweet. From growing up in foster care, to losing her mother, to enduring abuse, she kept focused on her dream of music. “I was the singing girl in high school. People would always ask me to sing a sing,” says Neshae, who attended Belleville High School and sang in the school choir.

Singing and poetry became a passion for Neshae as she dealt with her struggles, so she started sharing that pain with audiences. After uploading “On a Cloud” to SoundCloud, more than 95,000 users (and counting) have spun the track, leading to eventual radio play in some urban markets. Now this weekend, she takes the stage alongside headliners Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.

On the way to Summer Jamz, though, Neshae has already made contact with some of the industry’s heaviest hitters, catching the attention of Timbaland, and studio sessions with Jhene Aiko and Detroit’s own Big Sean.

“I am constantly recording but being in the studio with Big Sean and Jhene Aiko felt like home.  It feels as if this is where I was meant to be. Being with powerful artists is truly motivating,” Neshae says

Having found her silver lining, Neshae continues to give her all in her music.

“When you figure out there is something good in life that you love, you must push for it,” she says. “Great things will come and you can overcome anything.”
