Wedded Bliss: Akilah Washington, Brent Lee of Detroit

This darling couple was married on Nov. 1, 2014 at the Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit.

Akilah is a training specialist at Surgical Information Systems in Alpharetta, Georgia and Brent is a senior accountant at Brand Bank in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The couple, formerly of Detroit, now lives in Lawrenceville and traveled to Nassau, Bahamas for their honeymoon.

The dress

"A ball gown dress with organza ruffles and Swarovski crystals-I bought it in Atlanta. My sister begged me to try on a dress that was out of my comfort. Once I did, I knew it was the dress for me."

The flowers

"I chose calla lilies, hydrangeas and roses from Viviano Flower Shop in St. Clair Shores."

The cake

"A three-tier cake with buttercream icing and navy ribbon sitting on a silver-studded box. The cake was caramel with caramel filling and chocolate with chocolate mousse filling from Holiday Market in Royal Oak."

The special thing you had to have

"My granny was a very special person who passed away in 2006. She had a 'mother ring' with all of her kids' birthstones. I attached the ring to my second garter so that I could have something of hers close to me on my special day."

The most memorable moment

"Our first look (before the wedding, a newer trend). We didn't plan on doing this at first, but after consulting with photographer Brian Weitzel two days before the wedding, we chose to do it!"
