The local TV personality and motivational speaker shares her hopes for the Motor City’s future

honda Walker is one of Detroit's most recognizable faces as a local news anchor, interviewer, coveted motivational speaker, media personality and host of Local 4's coverage of the annual America's Thanksgiving Parade in downtown Detroit.
But beyond her public persona is the valued quality time she spends being a mentor to inner-city teen girls.
"My dream for Detroit is to see every child have an adult mentor," Walker says. "The benefits of mentoring relationships are well documented: (Mentoring) increases self-esteem, goal setting, improves grades and decreases the likelihood of teen pregnancy and drug use."
The Rhonda Walker Foundation aims to empower high school girls to become strong young women and leaders. And through youth mentorships, Walker explains, the city's future will blossom.
"So whether it's the Rhonda Walker Foundation or another mentoring organization, I want more adults to become mentors to fulfill my dream of a better Detroit, (so) all of our youth have loving, caring, encouraging and supportive relationships."
