Thrift On The Avenue: High Fashion, Low Prices in Midtown

"hrifting" can be a fail-safe way to branch out of your comfort zone when it comes to style options for spring, without the high-cost and commitment of department store buying. At the new Thrift on the Avenue boutique in Midtown, the theme is modern styles with affordable prices.
"We are definitely not a vintage store," says Christopher Prater, who co-owns the shop with his wife, TaNisha. "And I say that because I want to respect the other vintage stores in the area."
He adds, "One thing (TaNisha) really wants to be is the dress hub."
With a trendy dress collection featuring everything from wrap dresses to suspender skirts, the boutique is off on a fashionable foot. Currently it offers only women's clothing, shoes and accessories with price points as low as $12-$18. Prater says they plan to expand to offer men's clothing if there is a demand.
"We really wanted to have more of a boutique style, so we really limited the number of pieces that are shown in the store," Prater says. "We want to reflect the style, rhythm and flow of Midtown."
Thrift on the Avenue is located at 4130 Cass Ave., in Midtown Detroit. The thrift store shares a portion of its proceeds with Dress for Success Michigan and COTS (Coalition On Temporary Shelter). For more information about the style offerings at Thrift on the Avenue, visit ThriftOnTheAvenue.com.
