Remember getting pushed down the slide unexpectedly or getting crazy burns not being able to stop your speed; then you’ll love that opportunity to visit this childhood stable in Detroit

Open to residents until Labor Day Weekend, the giant slide is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday and staffed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in partnership with Healthy Kidz Inc.

Originally opened in 1960s, the Giant Slide at Belle isle was a just as big of a deal as its size to metro Detroiters back in the day. The partnership is part of their Summer Youth Employment Program that aims to expose children to parks and the environment to encourage careers in natural resources.
