Rising Star Endea Owens Returns to Detroit

Endea Owens, one of the most vibrant emerging artists in the jazz community, performs a tribute to her mentor Rodney Whitaker at the Carr Center on March 25th.

One of Jazz’s most vibrant emerging artists is coming home to Detroit on Saturday, March 25th for a special concert at the Carr Center Performance Studio that will be a tribute to Rodney Whitaker, one of three concerts planned to celebrate “The Man, The Mentor, The Musician”. The other two tribute concerts will feature Brandon Rose on April 27th and Ben Williams on April 29th.
Endea Owens is one of the most vibrant emerging artists in the jazz world today. She is a Detroit-raised Recording Artist, Bassist, and Composer who graduated from Detroit School of Arts and was also once a student in the Carr Center Arts Academy where she was mentored by our own Rodney Whitaker.
In 2018, Endea graduated from The Juilliard School and joined the Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a member of the house band Stay Human. Since then she has won an Emmy, Grammy Award and a George Foster Peabody Award. Her work has appeared on Jon Batiste’s Grammy Award-winning album “We Are” and Oscar-nominated
