Detroit Sip to open in northwest Detroit around Labor Day, owner says
July 26, 2016
ho says cool things don’t come to the neighborhoods? Detroit Sip, which was awarded a Motor City Match grant earlier this year, is set to open on Six Mile. The coffee shop plans to serve coffee, tea, baked goods and other snacks made within the city limits, including Faygo, Dutch Girl Donuts and Towne Club soda.
Detroit Sip will be located at 7420 W. McNichols, near the University of Detroit Mercy and Marygrove College. It’s the latest new business to arrive in the Livernois/Six Mile area, which has been getting some much-needed attention through the Live6 Alliance focusing development efforts to the area.
“I think it will draw students outside of those gated communities,” Owner Jevona Watson tells BLAC. “I believe that the coffee shop would be a place to help bridge that gap between those students who reside there for four years and never really venture out into the neighborhood that they are living in for that short period of time.”
The shop is expected to open around Labor Day, and these photos posted to Detroit Sip's Facebook Page show the progress on the space.
