Mo’Nique Gets Netflix Comedy Special

Netflix took to social media to announce the Mo’Nique’s stand-up comedy special. The special is part of the streaming platform’s “Strong Black Lead” marketing strategy which features Black characters at the center of movies, TV shows, and stand-up comedy. “Thrilled to announce that Netflix is the home for the next original stand-up special from the groundbreaking, trailblazing, and iconic Mo’Nique!” the Netflix tweet reads. It is accompanied with a video of the comedian who cannot contain her excitement to land a special with the platform. “Hey y’all its your girl Mo’Nique. And I’m so excited to share that I’m shooting my first Netflix comedy special,” she said. The announcement seems to show that both have settled their disputes, and are now working together to bring their fans a great time. Mo’nique previously took to court what she called “discriminatory low-ball offer” from Netflix citing racial and gender discrimination. “Netflix retaliated against her when it ‘dug its heels in the ground’ and refused to negotiate fair pay with her,” Mo’Nique argued according to court documents.

The comedian also took the time to plug an upcoming Netflix movie. “Oh and in case you didn’t hear, I’m also reuniting with my friend, my brother Director Mr. Lee Daniels on the Netflix film ‘The Deliverance.’ You won’t wanna miss either of them, so y’all stay tuned, and thank y’all my sweet babies. I love us for real,” Monique said. The announcement also marks the first project that the two will be undertaking together after the announcement that they have ended a 13-year feud. The movie was previously titled “Demon House” which tells the story of a mother who fights for her children’s life and her own after discovering that their new home is haunted by a demon.
