UAW-Ford and Northland Radiology are teaming up to offer women free mammograms throughout the week of October 17 in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Women are encouraged to get mammograms annually as a preventative measure against breast cancer, which affects one in eight women during their lifetime.

Mammograms will be offered from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. until Oct. 22 at Northland Radiology, located at 20905 Greenfield Road in Southfield. Participants must make an appointment at the center by calling 313-392-7398. Results of the mammogram will be mailed to patients.

“Northland Radiology is once again pleased to team up with UAW-Ford to help service metro Detroit’s community of underinsured and uninsured women,” said Northland Radiology Mammogram Technician and Radiology Safety Officer Pam Bradford says in a news release. “An average of 50 percent of uninsured women in metro Detroit have not had a mammogram in the last two years. When detected early, the breast cancer survival rate is 97 percent.”
