Meet BLAC’s New Editor-in-Chief Darralynn Hutson

Today, BLAC Media proudly announced an addition to its team – Darralynn Hutson has accepted the role of the Magazine’s new Editor-in-Chief. In her role, Hutson will curate the BLAC Media brands editorial team and content; overseeing Detroit’s monthly print publication and articles for BLAC’s five digital markets including Detroit, Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta & DC. “Darralynn Hutson is joining BLAC Magazine as the Editor in Chief. She will be leading the magazine through its next phase of growth and development. We’re thrilled to welcome Darralynn to the BLAC team,” said Billy Strawter Jr, Publisher of Black Life, Arts & Culture – BLAC.

“After working as a freelance journalist for more than 20+ years traveling the world sharing black stories, I’m so honored and proud to be back in my hometown fostering the careers of other fellow journalists and storytellers.”

In addition to working with the editorial team, Hutson will be instrumental is forging BLAC’s editorial mentorship program in an effort to foster more black men and women into the field of journalism.

“She brings a wealth of experience, having written for many years at some of the top publishing brands,” says Strawter. “Darralynn’s passion for the Black community and her commitment to creating a positive media presence is an asset that BLAC plans to use as it strives toward becoming nationally recognized.”

Hutson has been a practicing journalist for over 25 years; her work has glossed the pages, print and digital, of Vogue Italia, Essence, The Detroit Free Press, Food & Wine, Travel and Leisure, GQ and many more. Hutson coined the hashtag #lifeofaworkingjournalist where storytellers like herself give glimpses of real-life moments on-the-job. When not documenting the Black culture for BLAC, she’s busy compiling of the most comprehensive directory of who’s who in publishing in her annual “Big Fat Media Guide,” available at www.stylistssuite.com.

Many of you, our readers, have caught a glimpse of her life experiences through the many personal tales she has told — like her bumpy move to South Africa with her daughter and her sticky, two-week career as a cannabis trimmer. You’ve also joined her in her marvelous mother-daughter spring break in Miami, a weekend sabbatical in Cincinnati and a luxurious trip above the clouds in Philadelphia.
