Marvel Teased New “Black Panther” Movie

Marvel has unveiled a new chapter in the Wakanda civilization’s story. At the San Diego Comic-Con, the studio behind some of the world’s iconic superheroes revealed a teaser for an upcoming movie, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

In typical Marvel fashion, the trailer features snippets of epic battle scenes: a platoon of soldiers carries spears — seemingly heading into battle — while holding onto a large whale for tactical transport. The Dora Milaje — a team of Wakandan all-female special forces — looks regal and fierce at court. The teaser hints that the major conflict will be between the formerly hidden civilization of Wakanda and the underwater civilization of Atlantis. “I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entire family is gone,” Ramonda, played by Angela Bassett, passionately grieves from her throne. “Have I not given everything?” The monologue hints that the death of the character T’Challa will play a substantial role in the plot. T’Challa, the standing Black Panther per current Marvel Universe lore, was played by Chadwick Boseman. Boseman, however, died of colon cancer last August 2020, and Marvel has decided not to recast the character. However, the trailer teases that someone may be inheriting the Black Panther suit. As to who it will be, Marvel would prefer that we see it for ourselves as the film is set for the theaters on November 11, 2022.

Among the stars who will be featured in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Guirra as Okoye of the Dora Milaje, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda.  Just like the “Black Panther” (2018), the film is directed by Ryan Coogler and cowritten by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole.
