On Monday, May 16, 2022, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, will join Michigan Department of Education State Superintendent Michael Rice and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Director Orlene Hawks to launch the “Caring for MI Future” plan.
To help the nearly half of all Michigan families who live in communities without enough child care options, the ”Caring for MI Future“ plan sets a bold goal to dramatically increase the number of child care providers by opening 1,000 new facilities by 2024 through investing $100 million dollars to aid in the recruitment of child care providers and staff as well as expand the number of facilities and programs that provide quality, affordable child care for families in all communities.
During our interview early this year with Lt. Gov. Gilchrist II, he spoke about the importance of investing in childcare.
We have made historic investments in K12 education. This is about doing everything we can to position our youngest people for success. The investment in families and the infrastructure to support the adults who will care for our children are some of the most important investments we can make.
