Judge Upholds EAA Control of Detroit Public Schools

Chancellor Covington says focus can shift to educating students

ducation Achievement Authority of Michigan Chancellor Dr. John Covington said today in a statement that a judge's ruling that upholds the state’s control of fifteen Detroit Public Schools “will begin a radical transformation of public education in Michigan.”
Covington, called Wayne County Circuit Judge John Murphy’s ruling “welcome,” saying focus can now shift to educating students of EAA schools, “where it belongs.”
He continued:
“The principals and staff at each school are hard at work in preparing their schools and classrooms and staff members continue to train on the new learning platform that will form the foundation of these schools.
“As we have reached out to parents and students to explain the EAA, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, as was reflected by the strong turnout a week ago when we hosted open houses at each of our schools to enroll students.”
