esigner Barbara Wynder may be a “GRITS”-Girl Raised In The South-but her family and business connections definitely make her a Detroiter.

To celebrate the city she’s made her own, Wynder created the Detroit Cuff-a sleek and stylish series of stainless-steel wrist wear, each depicting intricate Detroit’s streets and landmarks.

Influenced by similar cuffs of transit systems, she wanted “to do something uniquely Detroit.” 

Woodward Avenue winds around one cuff, starting downtown and just ending at the Boston Edison area. The Belle Isle cuff, shaped like the island, includes locations such as the Grand Prix Race Track and the Dossin Museum. 

Another cuff maps Detroit’s east side. All cuffs feature the Detroit River, along with the codename “Midnight,” a reference to its days as a channel of the Underground Railroad. “It’s an homage to freedom-seeking people,” says Wynder, 67.

Several institutions in metro Detroit, such as the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and Michigan Artisans at the Eastern Market, carry the cuff. Cost is $45 to $55.
