Greenberg Eggnog for a Christmas Cocktail

eed a boost of holiday cheer? There's a reason eggnog is the star beverage of this season. It's rich in consistency, robust in flavor and plays well with others-like aged bourbon or your choice of full-bodied booze. At the new Briggs Detroit sports bar downtown, spiked eggnog gets a light and sporty makeover with this quick and easy-to-scramble recipe that'll bring holiday cheer to any celebration.

Greenberg eggnog

Servings for 10

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 
  • 3/4 Tbsp. water
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • Pinch salt
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 6 egg whites
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups cardamom- and honey-infused bourbon
  • Chinese five spice blend

Directions

Melt brown sugar and water over medium-high heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and carefully add heavy cream. Add salt and stir to combine. Cool to room temperature.

In a mixer on high, beat egg whites until soft peaks appear. Turn mixer to medium low and stir in half of brown sugar and cream mixture; put aside. Separately beat egg yolks on high until pale yellow and ribbons form. Turn mixer to medium low and add remaining cream mixture. Add milk, vanilla and bourbon. Stir to combine. Finally, carefully fold in egg whites and cream mixture. Ladle into serving cups and sprinkle with Chinese five spice blend. Yum!
