Gold medalist Claressa Shields to headline televised women’s boxing match in Detroit

This will be the first time two women have headlined a premium television boxing match.

lint native and two-time Olympic gold medal winner Claressa Shields will make history as one of the first women to headline a premium television boxing match.
The 21-year old will be competing close to home for the match titled “Detroit City Gold” next month at MGM Grand Detroit. Shields will take on Hungarian boxer Szilvia “Sunset” Szabados in one matchup; also on the card are Detroit natives Ed Williams and James Smith.
“We’ve got a terrific card from top to bottom in support of this fantastic main event as well, featuring some of Detroit’s brightest up-and-coming prospects as well as some national and international flavor,” boxer and promoter Dmitry Salita says. “Detroit deserves to have world-class events such as this and I’m very proud to be able to bring it here.”
The match will take place at 10 p.m. on March 10 at MGM Detroit and will be broadcast live on Showtime. Tickets range from $50-$250 and are available through Ticketmaster.
