Detroit students now have the option to attend a four-year college or university tuition-free

ayor Mike Duggan and Governor Rick Snyder announced an expansion to the Detroit Promise scholarship program, which will now give Detroit students the opportunity to attend a 4-year college or university tuition-free.
Earlier this year, Duggan announced the Detroit Promise scholarship, allowing any high school student in the city free tuition to participating Detroit-area community colleges. Over 700 students will be attending a community college this fall for free, through the Detroit Promise program.
Today’s announcement is for a pilot program that allows any student at a Detroit high school with a 3.0 GPA or better and a 21 ACT score or 1060 SAT score the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree for free.
The Detroit Promise program is funded by the Detroit Regional Chamber and the Michigan Education Excellence Foundation
Registration is now open for high school seniors who will be graduating in summer 2017, and the deadline is February 1 for universities and June 30 for community college.
