Detroit Branch NAACP 33rd Annual Art & Essay Scholarship Competition 2023

Each year, the Detroit Branch NAACP recognizes some of our most talented students through the Art and Essay Competition.

Thirty years ago, the Detroit Branch NAACP partnered with Coca-Cola and the Detroit Public Schools district to provide students with an opportunity to display their knowledge of civil rights history through art with the launch of the Annual Art & Essay Scholarship Competition.
The Art & Essay competition gives students the chance to show their artistic talents in various ways through a number of different mediums.
Students can demonstrate through their talents how the civil rights struggle has impacted them personally. To accomplish this, the NAACP includes writing and art prompts designed to broaden the students’ perspective, however the student is not required to use the people specified in the writing and art prompts.
This years winners will be recognized at a private reception, with all first-, second- and third-place winners will receive tickets to the Detroit Branch NAACP’s 68th Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner at Huntington Place, where their work will also be showcased during the can’t miss event.
Who is eligible:
Public and Private elementary, middle and high school students in Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Inkster, Oak Park, Redford, River Rouge, Romulus, Southfield and Detroit NAACP Youth Council Members are eligible.

Friday, March 17 by 6 p.m.
