What didn’t go down at the BET Awards?! We’re still recovering from Taraji P. Henson and Lil Nas X’s looks, not to mention Cardi B’s head-turning pregnancy announcement. Speaking of style, we went looking for the best of it in Detroit and found the BLAC StyleMakers — it’s almost too much for one photo shoot. But is there such a thing as “too much”?

“Detroiters will risk it all for fashion,” one StyleMaker told us. So put on this week’s In Style playlist while you’re getting dressed to go out (or stay in, do you) to get you hyped to take the risk.

Nike, who? Allyson Felix is headed to her 5th Olympics in her own shoe brand

After being dropped by Nike for adding motherhood to her resume, the six-time gold medalist scooped up two former Nike employees to design and engineer the Saysh One, a brand of athletic footwear for women, by women. (Yahoo News)

The BET Awards made a lively, in-person return

Host Taraji P. Henson offered over 10 looks in a lively, star-studded show that (oddly) awarded a duo with one single and no album “Best Group,”; bestowed Queen Latifah a much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award; had Cardi B (and Offset) announce a second baby by way of a dazzling Dolce & Gabbana custom sheer jumpsuit; and convinced us that Michael K. Williams is the only man who should play DMX in a biopic. (BET)

Nikole Hannah-Jones gets tenure back

After public outcry, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill decided to overturn its decision and issue tenure to lauded journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones anyhow. This time, she isn’t so sure she still wants the job. (NewsOne, NPR)

Bill Cosby released from prison on a technicality

The disgraced star was convicted in 2018 of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in 2004. After serving 3 years of a 3 to 10 year sentence, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction, arguing that prosecutors violated Cosby’s rights by reneging on an apparent promise not to criminally charge him following a deposition in which he admitted to obtaining quaaludes for purposes of having sex with women. Phylicia Rashad under fire for supporting Cosby’s release

On Wednesday afternoon, Rashad tweeted, “FINALLY!!!! … A miscarriage of justice is corrected!” and faced a swift Twitter backlash, along with denouncement from Howard University, where she was recently appointed Dean of the newly reestablished College of Fine Arts. (The Root)

Possible rehab stay for rapper Young M.A.

In recent social media posts, the popular musician suggested that she’s planning to check herself into rehab for an undisclosed addiction. While it isn’t clear whether or not she’s made it yet, she recently tweeted a prayer asking for grace and support. (MadameNoire)
