Ashley and Adam Hosey: The Newbies

dam and Ashley Hosey have one of those relationships most people envy, because it's playing out so beautifully on Facebook.

Updates on the little things – surprise gifts, romantic dinners, silly faux pas – are what pepper Ashley's Facebook page. Call it a reflection of modern romance: The pair actually might not be together today if it weren't for Facebook.

They first met as students at Oak Park High School, she a sophomore and he a senior. A few years later, they ran into each other at a club in Windsor. They started communicating via Facebook, then real-life courtship before marrying in 2011.

"Marriage is like going off into a foreign country and adjusting to a new culture," Ashley, 27, says. Adam, 29, shares a similar view: "It's the most challenging yet rewarding thing I've ever done."

Family planning might have been their biggest challenge. The two worried they could not conceive after doctors discovered Ashley had fibroid tumors, a condition that affects the ovaries.  They persevered, and welcomed a baby boy, Ace, in 2014.

Marriages in the 20-something years can be more difficult for some, as both parties are still young and learning not just about each other, but themselves. That's not the case for the Hoseys, but they’ve seen it happen.

"We have a lot of friends going through their problems," Ashley says. "They don't realize (marriage is about) working together – teamwork. It's maturity and working together."

"You have to respect each other’s boundaries," Adam adds, "but there's definitely commitment."
