2022 BET Awards was Lit!

The stars were out in full force at this year’s BET Awards, which aired live on Sunday from the Microsoft Theater. The awards show had been heavily touted as “culture’s biggest night” and it didn’t disappoint.

The 2022 BET Awards were one of the most talked about events before it took place last Sunday.

Hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson — who also hosted last years’ festivities — there were plenty of epic performances throughout; memorable acceptance speeches with an exciting tribute to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who received his own lifetime achievement award.

The Winners

Silk Sonic’s album won best for the year. They also took home an award as the best musical group — beating Migos, City Gurls, and Chloe x Halle.

Megan Thee Stallion was announced as the winner of Female Hip-Hop Artist while Kendrick Lamar collected the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist award.

Jazmine Sullivan and The Weekend hailed as best Female and Male R&B pop artists. The “Heaux Tales” hitmaker gave an emotional speech about how important it is to stand up against the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade.

Diddy took home the BET Awards 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. Meanwhile, Latto won Best New Artist, and Wiz Kid and Justin Bieber’s “Essence” won Best Collaboration, giving Bieber his first BET Award.

The BET Awards performances were a bang!

Jack Harlow performed “First Class,” and, just as everyone thought he would be all alone on stage, he was joined by Brandy onstage singing her own verse.

Latto took the house down with a showstopping performance with Mariah Carey making a surprise entry.

Meanwhile, Lizzo danced and sang “It’s About Damn Time,” starting the song with a flute solo.

Some Surprises

The BET Awards ceremony had a lot of surprises in store for everyone, but none was more surprising than Kanye West’s sudden appearance to give flowers to the lifetime achievement awardee, Diddy.

And, conversations about the recent overturning of Roe v Wade also made their way onto center stage during this year’s show with host Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae and Jazmine Sullivan taking jabs at the issue.
