Houston’s very own celebrated chef, Don Bowie, melds his love for golf and the culinary arts for a good cause with the 2nd Annual Taste of Houston Golf Tournament. Scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2025, this event at Hermann Park Golf Course stands out as a symphony of sport, community, and culinary talent, all for the benefit of aspiring student-athletes.
The mission of the tournament, aptly named “Teeing Off a Better Tomorrow,” revolves around empowering the next generation of golfers. Proceeds will directly benefit the golf programs at Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University. Bowie’s Big Chef Bowie Cares foundation aims to fund scholarships, supply equipment, and enhance training opportunities for student-athletes, giving them a leg up both academically and athletically.
Participants will be welcomed to Houston’s picturesque Hermann Park Golf Course, known for its challenging 18-hole, par-70 layout. Starting the day at 6 a.m. with check-in and breakfast, golfers will enjoy some practice range time before the 8 a.m. shotgun start. The course is designed for players of all skill levels with tree-lined fairways, bunkers, and water hazards. Exciting contests like the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin offer chances to win fantastic prizes.

Beyond the competition, the event is a golden opportunity for networking and building community among golf enthusiasts, local restaurants, and business leaders. The awards luncheon at 1:30 p.m. will highlight the event’s top performers, while the 19th Hole Networking Mixer at Bar 5015 (5015 Almeda Rd) offers a culinary experience featuring some of Houston’s finest dishes from local chefs.

The tournament welcomes individual players, foursomes, and sponsors eager to support this meaningful cause. With registration fees set at $600 per foursome and $150 per individual, participants will enjoy all-inclusive access to the tournament, including greens fees, a golf cart, range balls, breakfast, the Awards Luncheon, and the exclusive 19th Hole Networking Mixer. However, note that registration is available only online at the Big Chef Bowie Cares website, and no on-site registration will be provided.
