Southern Jerks HTX began where plenty of Houston food stories do: in a space far smaller than the ambition behind it. The Caribbean-Southern restaurant built its following inside a gas station. Now owner Jabril Riddick is taking the concept into two full-service dining rooms.
The next locations are planned for 111 Greens Road and 12374 Martin Luther King Blvd. in South Park. Both give Southern Jerks more room for families and groups while carrying forward the food that made the original counter a destination.
That growth matters because it changes how customers can experience the business without asking Southern Jerks to become something unrecognizable. Fried chicken, wings and burgers remain alongside collard greens, macaroni and cheese, dirty rice and the restaurant’s signature sauces. The setting gets bigger; the foundation stays familiar.
“Opening two new locations is a huge milestone for us, but what makes it even more exciting is being able to bring Southern Jerks into new communities across the city,” Riddick said in the announcement.
A preview was announced for the expansion, but the organizer’s current RSVP page now says a new date is coming soon. BLAC is withholding the previously circulated date until the restaurant confirms the new schedule.
