Macy’s in Eastland Center is closing at the end of 2017

The Macy’s store in Eastland Center is closing, another blow to the ailing Harper Woods shopping mall.

The eastside Macy’s is one of four Michigan locations shutting its doors at the end of the year, including locations in the Westland Mall in Westland, the Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek and the Lansing Mall in Lansing.

Macy’s is closing several stores nationwide to offset declining revenues, particularly after a weaker holiday shopping season in 2016.

But Eastland has seen better days. Formerly owned by Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation, which operated – and closed – Northland Mall in 2015, the mall went into foreclosure in 2016 and has since been bank-owned.

No formal date has been announced for the three store closings.
