If your child still needs something creative to do after school, there is time to request a spot in Living Arts’ fall program.
The Southwest Detroit nonprofit is accepting registration requests through Friday, Oct. 16, for its Quarter 1 Out-of-School Arts classes. The session began Oct. 5 and continues through Nov. 20 at 4851 Michigan Ave. A showcase and make-up week is scheduled for Nov. 30 through Dec. 4.
Families can explore dance and movement options including ballet, Detroit Jit, Dunham, jazz, karate, Latin fusion, modern, pointe and tap. The official program page also lists elementary art, fiber arts, music production, video animation and visual arts. Living Arts says its expanded fall offerings include capoeira, storytelling, music, theatre and musical theatre.
Classes generally meet once a week with a teaching artist. Students spend the first part of the program building skills and foundational knowledge before working toward an end-of-year showcase for families and the community.
“We want every family in Detroit to know there’s a place for their child here,” Demetrius Shields, Living Arts’ director of programs and fundraising, said in the announcement.
There are a few things to know before registering. The online form is a request to join a class, not a confirmed seat. Living Arts reviews each submission and follows up by email. If a class is full, the student may be placed on a waitlist. Accepted families receive payment details and next steps afterward.
Living Arts describes its pricing as affordable and says need-based scholarships are available. The registration form is offered in English and Spanish.
Families can review the Fall 2026 program information and submit the official registration request. Questions can be directed to Demetrius Shields at demetrius@livingartsdetroit.org or 313-241-3600.
Winter enrollment is scheduled to open Nov. 9, with classes beginning in January.
