Finding beauty products that truly work shouldn’t feel like trial and error. For Detroit entrepreneur Latisha Higgins, that frustration became the inspiration for a business rooted in care, confidence and community. Her new storefront, SHE HER HIS BEAUTY , has officially opened on Detroit’s Historic Avenue of Fashion, bringing a curated selection of natural beauty products to one of the city’s most celebrated shopping corridors. From nourishing hair products to beard oils and signature hair perfumes, the shop was created with people in mind who want products that are gentle, effective and made with intention.
Higgins’ journey into beauty entrepreneurship began long before opening her doors. After struggling with eczema and searching for products that wouldn’t irritate her skin, she started creating her own. Working long shifts in corrections also inspired her to develop a lightweight hair fragrance that could keep hair smelling fresh throughout the day without being overpowering. What started as personal solutions eventually evolved into a growing beauty brand. Now, that vision has a permanent home on Livernois Avenue.
Opening a brick-and-mortar business is a major milestone for any entrepreneur, and Higgins received support along the way through a $50,000 Motor City Match grant , which helped fund renovations for the new location. According to the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the investment is part of the city’s ongoing effort to help small businesses establish roots in neighborhood commercial districts. For shoppers, SHE HER HIS BEAUTY offers more than products on a shelf. It’s another example of a Black- owned business creating space where customers can discover beauty solutions designed with their needs in mind while supporting a local entrepreneur invested in Detroit’s future.
The location also adds to the continued momentum along the Avenue of Fashion, where independent businesses are helping shape one of the city’s most vibrant shopping destinations. Every new storefront contributes to the neighborhood’s energy, making it an even stronger destination for residents and visitors looking to support local businesses. Looking ahead, Higgins hopes the business grows beyond retail. Her long-term vision includes creating mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities that introduce young people to entrepreneurship and careers in the beauty industry, helping inspire the next generation of business owners.
As more Black entrepreneurs invest in Detroit’s commercial corridors, businesses like SHE HER HIS BEAUTY reflect the creativity, resilience and determination fueling the city’s small business community. Whether you’re looking for your next favorite beauty product or simply want to support a local entrepreneur, this newest addition to the Avenue of Fashion is worth adding to your list.

A Sunday Morning in Idlewild
I’m sitting outside at Black Eden Brews listening to the sounds of Sunday morning brunch. Where to get minnows. What time of morning is best to walk. How much things have changed. Yet when you put it all together, the technology and the sensibilities may have changed. The need for meaningful relationships and meaningful places […]
