BLAC Brief | Houston
Bungalow Dining is getting a new home in downtown Houston.
The Black-owned restaurant is relocating to 909 Texas Avenue inside the historic Rice building, bringing an updated menu, expanded private dining spaces and a new chapter for the hospitality brand.
Co-owner JR Martins says the move is about building on what guests already know while creating room for something more.
“This move represents the evolution of Bungalow and what we believe the brand can become,” Martins said.
Executive Chef Mark Holley, a longtime presence in Houston’s culinary scene, is leading the kitchen. His new menu combines Gulf Coast influences with global flavors, including jerk Wagyu meatballs, sticky lamb ribs with miso glaze, 48-hour oxtail ragu and a Cajun ribeye.
Even the sides carry some personality, with creamed kimchi collard greens and braised oxtail hoppin’ John joining the lineup.
The new restaurant will feature a main dining room, bar and patio, along with three private dining rooms accommodating approximately 20 to 30 guests each. An upstairs dining space will overlook the main floor.
For Martins and co-owner Jonathan Reitzell, the expanded space creates opportunities for everything from date nights and cocktails to birthday celebrations and private events.
Bungalow’s move also adds another Black-owned dining destination to downtown Houston’s restaurant scene, where independent hospitality businesses continue to contribute to the city’s food culture.
Location: 909 Texas Avenue, Houston, TX 77002
Planned hours: Sunday–Thursday, 4–11 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 4 p.m.–midnight.
Bungalow announced plans to reopen in early November 2026. Confirm the opening date and operating hours before visiting.
