The 2022 ESSENCE Festival of Culture was just a few days back. And it still has been unforgettable.
It was a celebration of Black joy, magic, and excellence which not only engulfed New Orleans, but the entire nation. After a pandemic pause, the festival did not disappoint when it returned this year.
If you missed the festivities, we’re here to give you a run down of what you’ve missed:
Janet Jackson Was Breathtaking
Janet Jackson’s performance of “If” was breathtakingly stunning and sparkling. Those energetic dance moves will make anyone ask how she managed to pull off such a performance. Just by the end of the first song you can see her really catching her breath from that few minutes of intense show-womanship. Of course, she made it look effortlessly simple.
Debbie Allen Dancing On Stage with Patti LaBelle
Even the most respected and venerable OGs like to let loose and throw it in a circle every now and then.
During Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade,” legendary dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen showed us all this over the weekend when she danced it out one time for the one time, much to the surprise and inspiration of many.
As someone who is highly respected and revered, this just goes to show that even our OGs like to let loose and have some fun every now and then. So the next time you’re feeling down, remember that even the most respected people in the world like to cut loose and have some fun — go out there and make your own fun!
Black Women Having a Good Time
We all love a good synchronized dance routine. Whether it’s a group of people singing in unison or moving in lockstep, there’s just something about it that makes my heart sing. And It was definitely a feeling to see DJ D-Nice brought out Dru Hill during his set on Saturday night.
Especially when the first few notes of their hit “Tell Me” started playing, you couldn’t tell who was more on-point with the moves: the audience or Sisqó. You can see people from the audience joining in the groove and jumping side to side.
It’s just the perfect picture of Black folks having a good time with not a care in the world.
