Catherine Elizabeth Patton’s work focuses on capturing the being of her subjects through the medium of the lens. She’s primarily a photographer who has captured the imagination of the city’s community. Her work lines the Memphis International Airport together with local artists has been recognized by the Indie Memphis Film Festival and has worked with many local institutions to produce works that just stun.
She worked as the artistic director and production designer for the indie short film “The Devil Will Run” which was recognized as the Best Hometowner Narrative Short during the last year’s independent film festival. Meanwhile, her vibrant portraits portray a duality of strength and gentleness within individuals of color. The photographer’ works have been displayed and celebrated at The Gallery at The Greater Memphis Chamber, and she had the honor of representing the Young Arts Patrons as a curator for one of the exhibits held at the chamber. Additionally, one of her works with Memphis musician Cameron Bethany, a frequent collaborator who has modeled for her several times, has been featured along the public areas of Memphis’ airport. She has also been a featured artist in the Urban Art Commission’s “Billboard Series.”
“One of the things that drew me to photography was the appeal of keeping my eyes open and catching beautiful and intriguing moments. It’s like photos how themselves to me and the excitement comes from knowing that everyone e sees everything differently depending on vantage point, time of day, how the wind blows, how much light there is, where the clouds are, etc. Everyone sees and experiences things differently. Taking advantage of the small window of time that I have to capture the moment the way I experience it through my photography is so satisfying,” the photographer told the Greater Memphis Chamber.
