The Detroit Foundation Hotel and Hotel Iroquois landed the fifth and eighth spots on the best Midwest hotels list published by Condé Nast’s Traveler. The two were voted into the lists by the general public as part of the magazine’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards. If you are looking for a great staycation spot, you don’t need to look further; Michigan has some of the best Midwestern United States has to offer.
Formerly the headquarters of the Detroit Fire Department, the building that houses The Detroit Foundation Hotel was constructed in 1929 on the northeast intersection of Washington Boulevard and West Larned Street. It was transformed into a 100-room hotel with a restaurant, private dining room, chef’s table, bar, lounge, shop, two conference rooms, and a podcast studio on the ground floor. And the place is no stranger to accolades and its impeccable hospitality and historic charms have captured the heart of everyone who rests in its opulence.
Meanwhile, Hotel Iriquois faces the brilliant azure of the Mackinac Strait. Comfortably nestled at the edge of the shores of Mackinac Island, it offers a refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life with the deep blue waters and perfectly manicured gardens. Its American Farmhouse style interiors and exteriors will transport you into a comfy and rustic era where modern distractions will just fade away. This place has charmed those who get to relive the simpler, quieter, and more pastoral atmosphere it wishes to relive.
Traveler annually conducts a survey where it asks the public to vote for the best resorts, hotels, and other destinations from around the world. For this year, the voting started last April and lasted until June. The results of the voting were published on Oct. 4, 2022.
