Former Google tech executive, Davlyn Mosley, Washington, D.C. native, found her way into the skincare game after years of skin tips and tricks from her mom, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant. This recognition is captured in the name of her new line, Namesake Skincare, a line of dermatologist-approved skincare essentials, which caters specifically to the concerns of Black women.

Offering A Simple Beauty Routine
Taking notice of the number of beauty influencers’ multi-step skincare routine videos, Mosley wanted a brand to stand as a simple route to healthy and radiant skin.
“I started Namesake with a singular goal in mind: to create a skincare line specifically catered towards the care of melanin-rich skin. It needed to be powerful enough to target the particular concerns of my own skin type, focusing on brightness, elasticity retention, and smoothness,” says Mosley. “And it also needed to be gentle enough to work on my own ultra-reactive skin. When I scoured the existing products on the market and was unable to find anything that covered those bases, I decided to create my own. I brought my dermatologist mom on as an advisor, and Namesake was born.”
She Get It From Her Momma
Mosley’s understanding of simple skin routines came from Dr. McKinley-Grant, who Namesake Skincare is an ode to.
The founder’s mission is for Namesake Skincare to provide access to effective yet gentle products. Being alongside her mother, the two have put a lot of work into the backend to ensure quality is at the center of the brand.
“We spent almost two years perfecting the formula for the Daily Moisturizer and we started from scratch,” Mosley told AfroTech. “We made so many revisions which meant I was constantly FedExing samples from LA to DC so my mom could weigh in on everything from the ingredient list to the texture and scent. She was incredibly instrumental in making sure that we didn’t include ingredients that she’s seen her patients react negatively to.”

Moisturizer
Right now, Namesake consists of a daily moisturizer; Exfoliation meets hydration with The Daily Moisturizer — it gently exfoliates while simultaneously helping to plump, brighten, and even skin tone. The cream showcases powerful clinically tested ingredients, has been through irritation testing and are dermatologist approved.
